Camera Angles

This is the master shot used to show the setting of the hangout.

High angle shot showing a height difference between the characters. It also showcases the layout of the enterence to the home.
As Ariana opens the door, we use a master shot which also saved production time.

The wide shot reveals all individuals involved in this scene and the setting they're currently in.

This is an over the shoulder shot helping us know what Ariana is staring at.

Lighting

During this film session, I was able to use the orange lighting of the setting to my advantage while editing. The orange lighting in the unedited version of the film brought a sense of warmth and safety but when I place a bluish filter over the film, both the cold and warm colors clashed. I used this to represent the emotions and mood the characters were feeling. Although one of the characters were facing personal challenges along with Destinee having secrets, the friends still felt safe and comfortable with each other.

New Script

While doing our final film session, we found it necessary to rewrite our script as certain lines didnt come out as clear or concise as we wanted. This new script made it easy for us to film clearly and not stress over our tone and facial expressions.

Editing Finale

For the final film, I took a slight different approach with the editing but kept the visual filters and random black screen cuts in the film.

In this editing session, I kept the same filter adjustment to create a cold eerie mood in the film, but I mainly spent my time on the text and how I can involve text to guide the audience and represent the horror genre through the title. For the text I chose a font that was offered on Capcut called Spire. The font instantly set the tone and signaled the specific type of mood to expect throughout the film.

Title Sequencing for our film

For our title sequence, my team has planned to do it at the very beginning of the film. As the editor, I don't know what font ill be putting the text, but I plan for it to be on the screen on top of an establishing shot of the setting. After the first 3 seconds of the title, I can do the billing. This billing will involve the directors name, the crew members, editor, writer, etc.

Example from Halloween of how it will be done:

2nd Film Session

On January 19th, my crew mate and I were not able to make it to this film session, but my other team members were able to film certain parts that did not involve us. This meant that for our final film session, we would be spending less time on the recording of the film. So far, here are the results of the last film session:

A Missing Crew mate??

As of recently, a teammate of ours has not been participating as much as we needed her to. Her lack of desire has slowed down the film process, but we know that we must move along from her absence during this crunch time. She took the responsibility of doing the story board and writing the script, but both responsibilities have been or will be taken up by my other production team members. This lack of effort from her cannot be taken anymore so we're determining if we should kick her, but as nice as we are, we must discuss with her first. We'll still continue to finish the film without her.

The representation we're aiming for

Our film was represented through mainly a social perspective with a group of teenage friends who do typical things such as hang out, have sleepovers, and keep secrets, even ones that can ruin friendships. Through our film, we demonstrate these things but mainly portrayed the consequences of secrets. When keeping secrets, don't you ever feel that at some point the secret will come out? Well for Destinee that wasn't the case which makes her reaction priceless when she is faced with it. This film could also help friendships in the real world to express whatever they've been hiding from each other.

Mise-en-Scene of our film

The mise-en-scene of my film follows the typical "game night goes wrong" film with a twisted story. In our film, our characters follow a less normal stereotype in horror films. A female who is keeping secrets as your typical teenager would to protect another. All the friends are wearing pajamas during the night, orange lighting, and an open living room for teenagers. We soon stayed in the living room, and use "tarot cards" as the game we play. The characters are positive and excited until the event turns.

Equipment

In our film, we're using an iPhone Camera to film the film. As high quality we want the film to be, the iPhone camera does a great job since we do not own a camera as a group.  The iPhone camera offers great clarity and is easy to use and access results especially as an editor. I am able to access these videos and put them together through a share button on the phone we record the film on. We do not own any mics which I wish we did to add clarity to our words but the film is fine without.

When will we ever film the movie??

So my team has planned to film the movie on January 12 and as we had the opportunity, many were not available including me. This isn't good as we will have to cram the movie very quickly along with our CCR. My team is believably set on January 19th since there is no school on that day which can work for us all. Although our schedules may be full, we will get this film done in time enough to finish the entire component.

Here is the conversation that took place:

Soundscape

In the film, me and my director agreed to use sounds that weren't too dramatic but also added to the story. We also wanted to include raw sounds from the original film or sounds that were picked up from the recording.

Sounds I include:

Texting sound - While all the characters were texting, the sound added to it to let the audience know

Message sent sound - Indicating that the message is sent

Camera shutting sounds - This indicated that the scene or clip was changed

Environmental cricket sounds - The outside at night shown during the opening

Editing Screenshots

1. Lowering the brightness was a necessity to create a darker vibe. This brings a sense of uncomfort and indicates that it is night.

2. Adjusting the saturation make the environment seem colder and more uncomfortable to the audience.

3. The vignette adds a dark filter to the border of the film. This adds to the horror genre increasing the dark and eerie mood.
4. Same as the saturation, lowering the temperature adds a blue filter over the film making it appear "colder."

 5. I included the black screens to show a separation between the scenes. Along with no dialogue and no music it added an unsettling mood to the film.

Update to the script

As we did the draft for our film, we noticed that it was necessary to change up the script since certain words did not come out right and the time to film it was limited. What I am going to show you is the finished script for this draft. As we continue to film changes will definitely be made.

Music

In this film, me and my members were contemplating on the music we use because it helps promote the mood. At first I thought that we could use a piano sound in minor chords but that would only make the film a little more classy and more thriller than horror/drama. After many trials and error, I stumbled upon a significant audio that fits the energy that is being conveyed through the film. This sound, called brown noise, is an eerie, deep atmospheric sound that can also create a sense of silence by masking other noises.

Bloopers

During our film, me and my actor mates encountered many difficulties and failed moments but we always laughed about them. Here is the bloopers of the first time we filmed our film. This process was too hilarious which made filming this project way better. I believe that as we go and finish the finale we will be more professional but we will still have our moments.

Color/lighting

Originally, the lighting of the home offered a bit of warmth and comfort but as I was editing the rough draft, I notice that drifted the film away from the horror mood. The lighting was also pretty bright which many horror films don't have because it gives a sense of safety and awareness. To avoid this, I changed the temperature of the film and saturation making the color of the film more cold and unsafe.  Here is a before and after:

Location for our Film

The location of the film will be at Adrianna's house. We plan to involve 3 different locations on the property to bring the film together. Having multiple locations within the house can help the story evolve, provide deeper contextual understanding and audience engagement.

The 3 Major Locations:
Outside the house - Where the friends meet outside of Adrianna's' house
The living room - Where the friends gather to watch a movie and play a game
Bathroom - Destinee encounters a supernatural situation

Minor locations:
Adrianna's bedroom
Destinee's living room
Damion's room
Ryan's kitchen

Here is an example of one of the locations, the living room:
