Casting

To present this movie, we'll have 4 characters; Damion, Adrianna, Ryan and Destinee. We were contemplating on introducing more characters but that would only make the film process more complicated. These 4 characters each have their own characteristics and traits that are fitting to the film genre and typical character stereotypes with a little twist.

(Example of the typical character stereotypes)

Adrianna: The game night host who is a very bubbly and kind female, also being the center of the film or main character.

Destinee: A female who carries an unsettling and disquieting vibe, being the character that introduces the conflict.

Damion: A male who is very quiet and has a low attention span. This character is just present but also valuable in setting a good vibe.

Ryan. A female who is blunt and honest but also looking for a good time. She is significant because she introduces the game.

All these characteristics and traits bring the film together. We tried to match the traits with the characters role in the movie so the audience is not confused.

Film Scheduling

My team has completed the first script but still struggle to come across an exact date. In order for us to come together, we recommended that we get all our blogs done and get all the supplies necessary instead of rushing it. Now that we are getting closer and closer to the due date, we began to recommend a close date to Nov 22- Nov 28. Originally this was not the idea though.

During the first week we planned to film before Halloween since our film would be fitting for the holiday but we underestimated the rate at which the blogs and script would be finished. Understanding this, we have given each other more time to prepare on our own behalf so when the time comes, we can finish in one day.

What position is the script in?

My team and I's script has been caught up, even though we started last week; we have made great progress with the story. My team has developed many ideas during the building of this script that I'd like to share.

As we spoke, we decided to change the beginning of the film.

I do not have the first draft, but originally we planned to include a gas station scene where I go and grab snacks as the character, Damion, for the movie night. This plan had to change, though, since we realized the little time we have goes by fast. The example films we watched helped us reach this idea, which is better than we thought it would be.

Now we removed that part and went straight to the arrival of the friends at Adrianna's house, which gave us more time to use for the climax.

Code/Conventions of horror films

This blog will probably be one of the more important ones since it creates the way that the audience sees the movie. Would we want them to feel like they're involved or just watching the film? Code and conventions of a horror film are the elements used to create an emotional reaction from viewers by interacting with their fears. Plenty of elements go into this, such as iconography, character types, technical codes, themes, and more, but in this blog, we're going to focus on the technical codes and more specified conventions since I've covered many of the others in my previous blogs.

To conduct my research, were going to examine the technical codes used in the Stranger Things new trailer.

 CODES:

- Stranger Things used many wide shots in this trailer to help the viewer examine the characters involved and their situation. This camera work is very beneficial in helping the viewer have an idea of what film they are watching without too much research.

- Along with wide shots, they also use many close shots with shallow focus. This helps us pay closer attention to a character's actions or emotions, since they can always have great significance. In this photo, the character is getting a reaction from the antagonist's actions, marking incoming danger.

- The editing involved in this video requires a lot of skill and access, making it less obtainable, but effects such as this or even simpler ones can grasp the reader's attention and keep them interested in the situation that is being presented. The photo involves red lightning, which can represent danger and a shocking moment.

CONVENTIONS:

Narrative - Clips have represented the benefits of unity and separation, with many characters in different locations at the same time. Voice-overs were used to describe the situation leading us to the antagonist of the season. They also use a very common narrative in sci-fi where a pre-existing threat reappears.

Genre - The trailer involved dark lighting to keep an eerie tone and emphasize an uneasy lifestyle for the characters. Music was constantly used to build tension as it grew louder and louder. There were supernatural representations to fit the sci-fi horror genre.

Characters - There is a hero team that is shown preparing for battle, along with a mentor who brings knowledge and emotional grounding. The main antagonist is teased in the trailer but isn't revealed, creating a mysterious mood.
